‘LA CityView Channel 35’ wins Emmy Award

Emmy Awards

The 68th Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards, presented by the Television Academy to Los Angeles television stations and cable television for broadcast achievements, was held on July 23, 2016 at the Television Academy’s new Saban Media Center. There, the City of Los Angeles’ local cable station “LA CityView Channel 35”, run by the Information Technology Agency, won an Emmy for the production of "Music Matters: LA Kids and Their Music" in the “Children/Youth Programming” category. This marks the channel’s 16th Emmy to date.

Additionally, Channel 35 was recognized with two other Emmy nominations for "LAtitude - Craning up" in the “Informational” category and "Become a Female Firefighter" for Public Service Announcements.

The Emmy award winning episode of "Music Matters" follows four music students from multiple elementary schools in the Los Angeles area as they attend the Children’s Music Workshop, a program which provides brand name instruments, experienced teachers, proprietary curriculum and professional, responsive support to elementary school children in Los Angeles. In touching interviews, these students describe what music means to them and how it has inspired them in their daily lives. “Music makes her feel better because it not only helps her relax.. helps her to focus, but also gives her a sense of achieving a goal,” says the mother of Grace (cello), as she describes the impact of music education. The episode culminates in an inspirational concert at the Schoenberg Concert Hall at the University of California, Los Angeles.
