This May and June DCA will premiere new works of art by the fourteen recipients of the 2021 City of Los Angeles (COLA) Individual Artist Fellowships. Each year DCA supports creative production by LA’s leading literary, performing, visual, and design artists through the COLA initiative with grants of $10,000 each to create new, original works and present them via a performance platform and exhibition.

The 2021 COLA Fellows are: Neel Agrawal, Noel Alumit, Edgar Arceneaux, Maura Brewer, Nao Bustamante, Jedediah Caesar, Neha Choksi, Michael Datcher, Sarah Elgart, Lia Halloran, Phung Huynh, Farrah Karapetian, Ruben Ochoa, and Umar Rashid.

On June 17th, COLA Artist Fellow Neel Agrawal takes the stage at the iconic Skirball Cultural Center to present his collaboration with legendary Indian violinist and vocalist L. Shankar. Agrawal is a multi-percussionist incorporating Indian, Middle Eastern and jazz percussion with electronic textures and soaring vocals.⁠ The performance can be viewed online afterwards at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFCie2QNvN0.

On June 24th, COLA Artist Fellow Sarah Elgart will present a site-specific dance performance at the Skirball Cultural Center⁠.  Sarah Elgart has been on the forefront of dance in Los Angeles as a choreographer, director, and producer for many years. Elgart’s work engages audiences by transforming and catalyzing bus terminals, airports, museums and more with movement, music, and media to make magic out of the mundane, allowing viewers to see “old places with new eyes.”⁠ The performance can be viewed at can be viewed online afterwards at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPzGeoX1h6I.
