The City Planning Department’s Urban Agriculture Incentive Zone applications are currently being accepted through Monday, October 15, 2018 for the 2019 tax year.

The Urban Agriculture Incentive Zone (UAIZ) is a state program (Assembly Bill No. 551) that was adopted by the California State Legislature in 2013. On June 14, 2017, the Los Angeles City Council adopted the Urban Agriculture Incentive Zone (UAIZ) Ordinance to implement a local program. The ordinance allows landowners to enter into a voluntary contract with the City of Los Angeles to use vacant properties for active agricultural purposes in exchange for a property tax reduction.

6 Things UAIZ One

Step 1: Apply
Submit the UAIZ Application at the DSC. Be sure to include a site plan, proof of ownership, and other requirements. Complete this step by October 15, 2018.

Step 2: Review
City Planning, the County Assessor, County Treasurer and Tax Collector review the application for eligibility.

Step 3: Sign Contract
City Planning works with the Property Owner to sign and notarize the 5 year contract. The Property Owner then records the contract with the County Registrar-Recorder's Office.

Step 4: File Contract
The Property Owner returns the recorded contract to City Planning. The County Assessor is then notified to grant the tax deduction.

Step 5: Inspection
The County Agricultural Commission conducts site inspections to ensure compliance with the contract. This occurs on an annual basis.
