Provider: Department of Recreation and Parks
Categories: Recreation: Museums and Exhibits
Description
The Museum is housed in the last remaining wooden building of the 22 that comprised the Drum Baracks military post from 1862 to 1871. Built on 60 acres of land donated by Phineas Banning and B.D. Wilson, the post served as a supply depot for forts in the southwest, housed and trained soldiers, protected the harbor and kept the peace in the area during the Civil War. The California Column helped pushed Confederate soldiers who invaded the Arizona Territory back across the Rio Grande River into Texas. Featured are period rooms, an armory and a Library. Guided tours of the museum are offered: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, and 1:00; Saturday and Sunday 11:30, 12:30, 1:30, and 2:30.
