Los Angeles Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa introduced the city's greatest litter fighting master, Octoclean, to a roaring crowd of more than 1,500 volunteers at the March 2007 kickoff of the Great American Cleanup for Keep America Beautiful and Keep Los Angeles Beautiful.

On Octoclean’s first day in action against the villainous Litter Bug, volunteers that came to help picked up more than 10 tons or 20,000 pounds of thoughtless trash and recyclables just around the Downtown L.A. area alone! The orange grim fighter knew his job was big and continues to call kids for more help.

Octoclean came on shore to spread the message that young Angelenos should take personal responsibility for their community and environment. Octoclean would prefer to spend time in the ocean, but every year, more and more litter and debris on the streets of Los Angeles end up polluting in the ocean.

Scientists have estimated 3.5 million tons or 7 billon pounds of litter in the Pacific Ocean! If you pulled all that trash out of the Pacific, the litter would cover all of California more than three times! Image standing on top of the Hollywood sign and seeing food wrappers, plastic bags, cups and plates, cigarette butts as far as you can see.

Octoclean wants everyone to take pride, love L.A., and keep it clean.
