The City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works Bureau of Sanitation is hosting its 6th annual open house events offered free to the public. Each of the city’s six sanitation yards, in Sun Valley, Northridge, Lincoln Heights/Cypress Park, South Los Angeles, San Pedro and West Los Angeles, will promote recycling fun while providing hands-on educational experiences and informational material on city programs. |

Launch of Pacific Coast Highway Website for Construction and Traffic Information |

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and cities of Los Angeles, Malibu and Santa Monica announced the launch of the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) construction information website to serve as a source of information about pending construction projects planned on PCH. The projects are scheduled to begin in spring 2008 with estimated completion in 2011. |

Education Targets Source Separation to Improve Diversion Rates of Household Waste |

The City of Los Angeles Bureau of Sanitation, in partnership with the Community Development Department, today announced the participation of sixty students in a six-week paid internship program. The program goals are to maximize the diversion of recyclables from landfills and to minimize the contamination of collected materials in order to sustain renewable resources of a better quality and to lower disposal costs. |

State Law Prohibits Disposal of Sharps in Regular Trash Containers |

The City of Los Angeles’ Bureau of Sanitation reminds
residents that effective September 1, 2008, Senate Bill 1305 makes it illegal to dispose of home-generated
Sharps in the regular trash. Sharps such as needles (hypodermic, suture), syringes, lancets, endo files,
prefilled pens, etc. should not be disposed of in the regular trash or flushed down a toilet but rather be brought to a S.A.F.E. Collection Center or Mobile Collection Event. |
