Funds are needed for a detailed conservation plan for the decorative art work in Los Angeles City Hall. The development of a broad conservation plan will map the way for appropriate preservation of the decorative ceiling murals for centuries to come. The murals located throughout the building are the work of two famous artisans – Anthony Heinsbergen and Herman Sachs.
Project Restore is seeking $75,000 for the development of a comprehensive conservation plan for the decorative art work in Los Angeles City Hall. The development of a broad conservation plan
will enable us to preserve the decorative ceiling murals that was the work of two famous artisans
– Anthony Heinsbergen and Herman Sachs.
Humidity fluctuations and pedestrian traffic has caused considerable wear and tear of the decorative
art work throughout the building. Because of the high ceilings, damage is not usually noticed until
paint chips start falling to the floor, or a mural canvas has detached and torn. The development of
a conservation plan will serve as a guide to aid us in the long-term preservation of the decorative
paint in this historic building.
As part of the conservation plan, we propose to examine all of the existing conditions of the
decorative paint. The plan will cover the individual testing of each specific area, the submission
of curator reports, high-resolution digital images, and laboratory tests.
And finally, the plan will include recommendations demonstrating the merits of conservation,
preservation, and restoration. |
