Description
The Sewer Science Program is an interdisciplinary microbiology, chemistry, physics and environmental curriculum for high school students. This program utilizes a hands-on mobile treatment lab unit to teach students about wastewater treatment. It is a grass roots approach to instilling a culture of pollution prevention in our youth and it links science and technology to environmental issues. Volunteer mentors from the City of Los Angeles, Department of Public Work provide a networking opportunity for the students who are seeking a career in the area of environmental science and wastewater treatment. Included in the message of the Sewer Science Program is the importance for students and at-risk youth to stay in school and complete their education so they can pursue a productive career. The program promotes life-long caring for the environment. For further information contact the Bureau of Sanitation, Industrial Waste Management Division (IWMD) at (323) 342-6200.
