Regular Programs
Griffith Observatory presents daily programs in the Samuel Oschin Planetarium and Leonard Nimoy Event Horizon Theater. It also hosts periodic special events and monthly public star parties.
NOTE: During the following holiday periods, we are pleased to offer the popular Let's Make a Comet demonstration program in the Leonard Nimoy Event Horizon.
Thanksgiving Weekend (Friday, Nov. 28 - Sunday, Nov. 30)
Winter Holiday (Saturday, Dec. 20 - Sunday, January 4)
Let’s Make a Comet is a 25-minute demonstration program that mixes common household ingredients with dry ice to make a small comet that’s just like the real thing. Families explore the nature of water in all its forms - solid, liquid, and gas - and learn why water is so important to life on Earth. Recent images and discoveries from NASA missions reveal where we might find water - and possibly life - on other worlds in our solar system.
Show Times:
Tuesday - Friday: 2:00 p.m.
Saturday - Sunday: 12:00 noon and 2:00 p.m.
Performances of Let's Make a Comet at these times will replace the normally scheduled showing of the Once and Future Griffith Observatory.
NOTE: During these same holiday periods, we will also add an additional 4:15 p.m. weekday showing of Water Is Life instead of Centered in the Universe in the Samuel Oschin Planetarium.
