DOCUMENT NO. ND-RP-276-08: EAST VALLEY MULTI-PURPOSE CENTER AT VAN NUYS-SHERMAN OAKS PARK PDF
Council District 2 Valley Region
The project site will be located in the Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Park at 5056 Van Nuys Blvd. east of the 405 Freeway and north of the 101 Freeway. The site will be bounded by Hartsook Avenue on the north, Van Nuys Boulevard to the west, and parkland on the east.
The proposed project involves the replacement of two existing buildings at Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks Park that are currently used by the Department of Recreation and Parks (RAP) for senior citizens recreational programs with new facilities to better serve seniors in the San Fernando Valley. The new facilities, which will be named the East Valley Multi-Purpose Center (EVMPC), will be composed of three buildings totaling 17, 319 square feet. The first building (7,707 square feet) will be used for multi-purpose activities; the second building (5,025 square feet) will house the center’s administrative staff; and the third building (4,587 square feet) will be utilized for fitness programs and classrooms. The project will also include development of the outdoor areas with the following improvements: parking lot to be upgraded with new paving, re-striping, trees, and planting areas; and the installation of perimeter security fencing, outdoor lighting, shuffleboard courts, outdoor seating, hardscaping, landscaping and new trees. In addition, the new facility will be equipped with an emergency generator, so that it can also be used as an emergency evacuation center in time of disasters.
The new EVMPC will expand RAP’s senior citizens recreational programs to include the charitable senior programs of Valley Interfaith Council (VIC). The VIC programs, currently housed in a leased facility located at 5000 Colfax Avenue in North Hollywood, will be discontinued and moved along with their staff and programs to the new EVMPC.
The public review and comments period for proposed Negative Declaration will be from April 10, 2008 to April 29, 2008. Copies of the document are available at the following locations:
