| Councilmember Huizar was recognized by the Los Angeles Unified School District and received a School Bell for his on-going dedicated service to public education and his genuine concern for the interests of all students in the LAUSD.
The Councilmember served four years on the school board, also serving as Board President.

| Valley Grade Separation Project Update M |
| Councilmember Huizar hosted a community meeting for El Sereno residents to update them on the Valley Boulevard grade separation project. After decades of delays and inadequate funding, Councilmember Huizar secured $9 Million in supplemental funding necessary to begin the project. The Valley Grade Separation Project will improve the quality of life for residents, commuters and pedestrians in El Sereno.

| Councilmember Huizar celebrated Ms. Ramona Garcia Coronados 103th birthday and presented her with a special recognition marking the occasion. Ms. Garcia Coronda has been a resident of Boyle Heights for more than 45 years and is a founding member of the Abuelitos de Boyle Heights. |
| Lloyd Monserratt Rededication Ceremony |
| Councilmember Huizar was joined by former Councilmember Nick Pacheco, Michele Monserratt-Ramos and more than fifty family members and friends to rededicate the murals at the Evergreen Cementary jogging path in honor of former City official Lloyd Monserratt. |
| Huizar's Winter Wonderland |
| Councilmember Huizar was joined by more than 3,000 El Sereno residents as he hosted the Second Annual Huizars Winter Wonderland. The family festival included a toy giveaway to children less fortunate in the El Sereno area, and featured an artificial snow pit, a live animal show, live entertainment and a special visit from Santa Claus. |

| Councilmember Huizar was joined by more than 2,000 children and families at the 6th Annual We Care East Los Angeles Food and Toy Giveaway. The event was co-sponsored by Iglesia Roca de Salvacion. |
| Sports Banquet Ramon Garcia Center |
| Councilmember Huizar congratulated and presented a trophy to more than 100 Boyle Heights youth for participating in sports programs at Ramon Garcia Recreational Center. Mr. Jose Aviles (Director of the Ramon Garcia Recreational Center) also received recognition for his commitment to providing quality team sports training and organizing competitions for the youth of the area. |

| Councilmember Huizar was joined by more than 5,000 residents from Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles as he sponsored the 26th Annual Miracle on First Street Parade and Toy Giveaway in Boyle Heights. Famous television personalities Tom Arnold and Jack Shepard helped give away toys to needy families. |
| First Annual Senior Snow Ball |
| Councilmember Huizar was joined by more than 700 seniors from Boyle Heights, El Sereno, and Eagle Rock as he hosted the First Annual Senior Snow Ball and Senior Holiday Gala at the Los Angeles Christian Presbyterian Church.

| 4th Street Bridge Lighting |
| Councilmember José Huizar celebrated the Second Annual 4th Street Bridge Lighting and Toy Giveaway event. Thousands of white lights twinkled as hundreds of families and children in attendance witnessed the illumination of the bridge. The event was made possible with the generous support from Soledad Enrichment Action (SEA), the United States Marine Corps, the Los Angeles Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol.
More than 3,000 toys were given away to families-in-need located in Boyle Heights during the event. The event also featured an artificial snow pit, live music, and a special visit from Santa Claus who took pictures and letters from children.
