Metro Tunnel Breakthrough
Councilmember Huizar, along with Mayor Villaraigosa, Supervisor Gloria Molina, Metro executives and other community leaders celebrated the tunnel breakthrough of the Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension.

Pecan Park Gym Grand Opening
Councilmember Huizar introduced the new Pecan Park Gymnasium in Boyle Heights. The new facility will serve as a symbol of the commitment and dedication the Councilmember has to bringing Boyle Heights and the rest of his district the public infrastructure and resources needed to allow our children to take full advantage of the recreational opportunities they deserve.

Rainbow Apts. Grand Opening
Councilmember Huizar attended the grand opening of the Rainbow Apartments in Skid Row. During the event, he spoke about the importance of providing respectful, well-managed permanent supportive housing projects to help the chronically homeless in Skid Row.

Federacion Mexico Unido
Councilmember Huizar received the "Estrella Dorada" award for the second time from the Federacin Mexico Unido on November 1, 2006. This award is given to those who have demonstrated a strong commitment to public service. Councilmember Huizar also received the award for the help he's given the Federacin throughout the years.

Legend of Creepy Collis Halloween Event
Councilmember Huizar sponsored the 1st Annual "Legend of Creepy Collis" Halloween Event in El Sereno on Tuesday, October 31, 2006. Every Halloween, this area is bombarded with children who are out trick-or-treating. This event provided a safe, well-lit location for kids and their families to enjoy the holiday.

Multnomah Elem. Mural Check Pres.
Councilmember Jose Huizar presented a $10,000 check to Multnomah Elementary School in El Sereno on Monday, October 30, 2006. The funds will be used to pay for artist fees to paint a new school mural to replace the one that was painted over a few years ago.

2006 Festival de la Gente
Councilmember Huizar co-sponsored the 7th Annual Festival de la Gente, along with Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at the Historic 6th Street Bridge in Boyle Heights. The family-oriented event featured live entertainment, art exhibits, crafts, food and more.

SW Museum Beautification Event
Councilmember Huizar, along with community members and leaders highlighted the partnerships of more than 60 community volunteers and neighbors who worked to complete beautification projects in the Southwest Museum neighborhood using funds distributed by the Public Works Community Beautification Grant Program.

Salesian H.S. Homecoming 2006
Councilmember Huizar, a 1986 graduate of Salesian High School in Boyle Heights, attended this year's Salesian Homecoming Game against Daniel Murphy High. The Councilmember had the privilege of conducting the coin toss to kick off the game.

Valley Comm. Clinic Visionary Award
Councilmember Huizar participated in the Valley Community Clinic 2006 Visionary Awards at Universal City. The Councilmember was honored to present the award to this year's Honoree, Maria Reza.
