1st St. Bridge Ltg. & Toy Giveaway
Councilmember Huizar kicked off the holidays with the 1st Street Bridge Lighting Ceremony and First Annual Toy Giveaway event at the Historic 1st Street Bridge in Boyle Heights on Sunday, December 3, 2006. The event included various activities for the children, including real snow for kids to play in, pictures with Santa Claus, arts & crafts, performances and much more. The first 3000 children who arrived at the event received a free toy!

El Sereno Xmas Winter Wonderland
Councilmember Huizar sponsored and hosted this year's El Sereno Winter Wonderland Holiday Extravaganza. Councilmember Huizar is sponsoring this event with the assistance of the Healthy Start Project, Comite Navideo , El Sereno Library and the El Sereno Chamber of Commerce. More than 3,000 toys from Mega Toys were distributed to children who attended the event.

Redwood Bar & Grill Ribbon Cutting
Councilmember Huizar attended the Grand Opening of a great new addition to the restaurant scene Downtown, the Redwood Bar & Grill. The Councilmember took this opportunity to congratulate and recognize owners Dev Dugal and Christian Frizell on bringing this great new venue to Downtown Los Angeles.

Para Los Ninos Thanksgiving Event
Councilmember Huizar, along with local dignitaries and others took part in this year's Para Los Ninos Thanksgiving Event at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels. The Councilmember spoke briefly during the event and shared with the crowd how happy he was to be able to share Thanksgiving with all of them.

Mariachi Festival
Councilmember Huizar proudly co-sponsored and attended the 16th Annual Mariachi Festival in Boyle Heights. This event celebrates Mariachi music and culture which truly adds to the flavor and identity of Boyle Heights.

Santa Cecilia Festival
Councilmember Huizar participated in this year's annual event to celebrate the feast day of Santa Cecilia, the patron saint of musicians. The procession took place at Mariachi Plaza in Boyle Heights.

Operation Gobble Gobble
Councilmember Jose Huizar, along with Ralph's Grocery Company/Food 4 Less and other sponsors distributed more than 1000 turkeys during the 1st Annual "Operation Gobble Gobble" Event on Monday, November 20, 2006 at El Pueblo de Los Angeles in Olvera Street. During this time of giving, Councilmember Huizar along with the other sponsors hope this event will help needy families enjoy their Thanksgiving Holiday.

Bravo Magnet Named Blue Ribbon School
Councilmember Huizar was honored to attend the NCLB Blue Ribbon Flag Ceremony at Bravo Medical Magnet High School in Boyle Heights. In September, Bravo was declared a National Blue Ribbon School. Students and Faculty are honored to be the first LAUSD high school in more than 10 years to receive this award.

Coalition for Clean Air
Councilmember Huizar took part in the 4th Annual Coalition for Clear Air Fundraising Fashion Show as one of the fashion models. All event proceeds will go towards restoring clear air in California.
