The OIG staff consists of a Police Performance Auditor IV, a Sergeant II, ten Special Investigators II, six Police Performance Auditors III, an Executive Administrative Assistant, a Systems Analyst II, a Secretary, four Senior Clerk Typists and two Clerk Typists. The special investigators are available M – F, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM to assist with any questions the public may have regarding LAPD personnel complaints.
The special investigators monitor, audit, review and when appropriate, initiate personnel investigations. They may also be assigned, under the direct supervision of the Inspector General to assist in investigating highly sensitive allegations of misconduct. The staff conducts reviews of selected completed personnel investigations.
The police performance auditors conduct in-depth reviews of specified LAPD audits, assessing there completeness, quality and findings, as well as conduct their own specified independent audits.
The Inspector General and his staff also conduct intensive reviews of Officer –Involved Shootings (OIS), Law Enforcement Related Injuries (LERI), and Law Enforcement Activity Related Deaths (LEARD). After each review, the Inspector General briefs the Police Commissioners of the findings.
The Systems Analyst maintains the many different databases within the OIG. The Systems Analyst is also responsible for maintaining the official OIG website.
The Administrative Support Section is responsible for a myriad of tasks. From the Executive Administrative Assistant who is primarily responsible for providing administrative support and organizing, coordinating, and supervising the staff in the section, to the clerk typist who is assigned to the Receptionist Desk.
The Sergeant II serves as the aide to the Inspector General and is a vital link to the internal policies and procedures of the Department. The Sergeant completes special projects on behalf of the Inspector General. On occasion, the Sergeant completes personnel investigations involving allegations against the staff within the office.
In addition to their oversight duties, the OIG, upon request, is available to attend and make presentations regarding the Police Commission and the OIG to community groups.
