LA City Hall Murals
|
We are currently working with Griswold Conservation Associates to develop a broad conservation plan that will map the way for appropriate preservation of the decorative ceiling murals in Los Angeles City Hall. This work has been made possible by a generous grant from the Getty Foundation.

Oakridge Park Clean-Up (2-5-09)
|
Councilmember Alarcon joined with residents of Oakridge Park for cleanup efforts. In late 2008 the Sayre Fire swept through the park, destroying over 500 residence and buildings.

The Councilmember and Project SAVE once again took over 140 at-risk youth to a three day camping and fishing trip.

Million Trees LA Artists

Million Trees LA is partnering with LA's art community to build public awareness about the greening program and the importance of growing the city's urban forest.

Bike to Work Week

Councilwoman Greuel participated in the annual Bike to Work Week kick-off in May, 2008. Held at the Universal City Metro Red Line Station, the event spread awareness that biking to work is possible.

Hazard Park Universal Access Playground
|
Creating playground access for children and parents with disabilities, Councilmember José Huizar, along with representatives from the Citys Recreation and Parks department and Shanes Inspiration, dedicated a new universal, handicap-accessible playground at Hazard Park in Boyle Heights. The universal access playgroundthe first in the 14th Council Districtis equipped with ramp access and play panels at ground level. It also has a special surface that allows walkers and wheelchairs to ride over with ease. The design also will allow parents with disabilities, such as wounded veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, to be able to play with their able-bodied children. The new playground cost $562,000 and was funded through Proposition 40.
