LA FIREFIGHTERS JOIN BATTLE TO CONTAIN SANTA BARBARA FIRE
LOS ANGELES - Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa today pledged the City’s support to battle the Jesusita Fire in Santa Barbara that has burned 1,300 acres and claimed 20 homes.
“I want to thank the brave men and women representing our fire department who are on the front lines battling the Jesusita Fire,” said Mayor Villaraigosa. “On behalf of the City of Los Angeles, I also want to extend our thoughts and prayers to the people of Santa Barbara who have lost their homes or are in danger of losing their homes.
Responding to a Mutual Aid Request, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) has dispatched three strike teams of firefighter. Each Strike Team consists of one Battalion Chief and five engine companies, bringing the total of 63 LAFD personnel assisting in the fire as of May 7th.
The Jesusita Fire broke out at approximately 1:45 PM on Tuesday, May 5th near the Santa Barbara Botanical Gardens.
