Serve LA – Volunteer

Mayor Villaraigosa believes that every individual has an obligation to society and that our duty to social justice begins first to those within our house, but that it extends equally to our city and to all the strangers within our gates.

The City of Los Angeles offers a wide variety of opportunities for anyone looking to do not just community service, but community building.

Days of Service

Changing neighborhoods with a cooperative spirit of service
Mayor Villaraigosa has sponsored 15 highly successful community days of service since his 2003 election to the City Council. The largest of which was Big Sunday 2007, brining more than 50,000 volunteers from across the City to service projects all around town.

In addition to the citywide Big Sunday on May 3 and May 4, the Mayor has seven local community service efforts planned for this year and early next year in the following neighborhoods:

  • Mar Vista, Venice, Del Rey – March 15, 2008
  • West Valley - May 3, 2008
  • Central - July 26, 2008
  • South Los Angeles - September 20, 2008
  • East Valley - November 15, 2008
  • Eastside - February 7, 2009
  • Harbor - May 2, 2009
