Los Angeles Business Team (Staff Directory)

The LA Business Team is integral to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s economic development goals of strengthening the socio-economic conditions of all communities throughout our City.  The purpose of the LA Business Team is to retain, grow and attract quality businesses and jobs to the City of LA. Thus, one of our fundamental goals is to make the City of LA business-friendly by providing prompt and effective service to our business and development community.  In working with this important segment, our administration’s goals are to:

• Help small, medium and large businesses do business in the City.
• Increase private sector investment and tax revenue generation.
• Increase the supply of quality and workforce housing; and
• Increase the provision of neighborhood goods and services.

The daily activities of the LA Business Team include, but are not limited to:

• Reaching out to the business and development community to ensure that the city is responsive to their needs.
• Promoting and marketing city assets, resources and programs to retain, grow and attract business to the City.
• Facilitating site selection, financing, permits/entitlements and other issues associated with specific projects, including targeted real estate development projects.
• Facilitating communication among stakeholders to address community and other issues associated with specific projects.

The LA Business Team Director advises operational and programmatic changes needed across city departments to make the City more business-friendly, ie, to deliver more effective services to LA’s business and development community.  The LA Business Team Director also informs policy direction on issues impacting job creation and business development, including industrial development, workforce development and small business development. 

The LA Business Team is housed in the Mayor’s Office of Housing & Economic Development.  The team is comprised of the LA Business Team Director, geographically-assigned representatives, one technical assistant and one administrative assistant.
