Starting New Projects
Building Public Transit Requires a Long-Term View
The growth of Los Angeles’ fixed guideway system has evolved over the past 17 years and by 2010 we will have almost 103 miles of service in operation. But we are also a relatively young city with an even younger transit system.
Many of the great cities of the world with noted public transportation systems have developed those systems over many decades, with some systems started over a century ago.
In addition, these cities are geographically smaller and have a much higher concentration of service, i.e. it is virtually ubiquitous — in stark contrast to Los Angeles today.
We are committed to not only finishing existing projects but also developing a true long range plan and vision for Los Angeles for the next 50 to 100 years.
