BACKGROUND INFORMATION SHEET

This table describes each column in the various reports produced by the Department of Water and Power. If you have additional questions, please send them to the Los Angeles Housing Department or call (213) 808-8651.

NBR UNITS Total number of housing units with electrical meters in that geographic area.
NBR IDLE Total number of housing units with electrical meters in that geographic area that are idle or inactive at the time of the report.
NBR OWNER-OCC Total number of housing units with active electrical meter accounts in that geographic area where the usage has dropped to a level that suggests vacancy.
TOTAL VACANT Sum of NBR IDLE and NBR OWNER-OCC. Due to the interpretation of whether a meter's activity represents vacancy as described in the OWNER-OCC field, the actual total number of vacant housing units is an estimate rather than an actual count of known vacant units.
% VACANT TOTAL VACANT divided by NBR UNITS.
MASTER METERED There are a number of buildings in the City of Los Angeles with master electrical meters. These are buildings where electricity for every unit in a multi-unit building is measured off one meter. As such, electrical use cannot be measured in individual units.
