The City's popular transit services have continued to be expanded over the past 10 years to meet the growing public demand for services. The public transit program currently includes a total dedicated fleet of nearly 400 City-owned vehicles, which is among the Top 50 largest transit fleets in the country and is the second largest fleet in Los Angeles County next to the MTA. The transit program also reached a new milestone by serving 30 million passenger trips in FY 2003-04. The transit services are described below:
Commuter Express
Limited stop freeway express bus service between residential areas and major employment centers. Commuter Express operates 16 routes throughout Los Angeles County and into Ventura County.

DASH
This is an intra-community bus service operating in Downtown Los Angeles and communities throughout the City. The 33 routes provide direct access to major community activity centers and play an important role in linking riders with regional rail and bus services.

Cityride
This is a subsidized transportation service for individuals aged 65 and older and those persons who qualify as being mobility-challenged. The 90,000 program participants may choose between taxi service, dial-a-ride vans, and conventional fixed route transit services.

Charter Bus
About 10,000 round trips are provided for youth, senior and disabled groups. City Council Offices, the Mayor's Office, and other City departments initiate the trips.

Transit Centers
The Department owns and operates 6 multi-modal transportation centers serving MTA, Metrolink, LADOT and other Municipal Operators, as well as taxis and shuttles. In addition, the City is developing the Warner Center Transit Hub in the San Fernando Valley and operates several other on-street Transit Hubs as well as park and ride lots.
