Child Care - Looking for Child Care?

FINANCIAL ASSITANCE PAYING CHILD CARE COSTS: Several programs are available for low-income working families to assist in paying for their child care costs.

CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, CHILD DEVELOPMENT DIVISION (CDE, CDD)
The California
Department Of Education, Child Development Division offers full-day child care for infants through school-age children. CDE contracts with local non-profit organizations and school districts for these services. Check with your local elementary school or in Los Angeles call Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Early Childhood Education Department at 213.625.6505 for information. A list of all state-funded agencies can be accessed by calling the CDE, CDD Office at 916-322-6233

STATE PRESCHOOL
State Preschool is a California Department of Education, Child Development Division program funded by the State of California. It is designed to serve low-income three- and four-year-old children in a 2 ½ hour per day educationally enriched program. Most State Preschool programs are operated by school districts or other local non-profit organizations. Check with your local elementary school or in Los Angeles call Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Early Childhood Education Department at 213.625.6505 for information. A list of all state-funded agencies can be accessed by calling the CDE, CDD Office at 916.322.6233. Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) also funds several agencies for State Preschool Programs. LACOE Head Start/State Preschool Division can be reached at 562.940.1789.


CalWORKS
CalWORKS' clients are entitled to free child care services if the parent is working or going to school. Call your GAIN worker or your local Resource or Referral Agency for details.    see list of Resource and Referral Agencies.

 

HEAD START
Head Start is a federally funded program for very low-income three- and four-year-old children. Almost all Head Start programs are half-day. Some full-day programs are available and a few Early Start programs for children birth to age three are available in Los Angeles. Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) is the grantee for most Los Angeles County. LACOE then sub-contracts with numerous local non-profit agencies.
