Meet Our Staff
Shane Murphy Goldsmith
Senior Legislative Deputy
Shane has been with the council office for nearly four years overseeing
a variety of field and legislative projects. She currently handles
housing, homeless, economic development, city budget, and public
safety policy for the Council President. She staffs the Council
President on the Housing, Community and Economic Development Committee
and the Ad Hoc Committee on Homelessness. She also handles LGBT
issues and helps run the CD13 Leadership Institute.
Shane was born and raised in Santa Monica, California. After graduating
from Kenyon College in Ohio with a degree in Sociology and Religion,
Shane spent a year as a National Hunger Fellow managing a homeless
shelter and doing federal policy research in Indiana and Washington,
D.C. Shane returned to LA in 1999 to do community organizing and
policy advocacy with several community organizations including
the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles and the Center for Community
Change. She then went on to receive her Masters degree in Public
Policy and Administration.
In her free time, Shane serves on the board of Liberty Hill’s
Lesbian and Gay Community Fund. Shane is living happily ever after
on the Westside with Milo (the cutest pug in the world), Enzo (a
cool black cat), and Monica (the woman to whom she was recently
married by none other than Eric Garcetti).
