Please RSVP to Eric Tang at the California Clean Money Campaign via email or by calling 310-481-0814.

Clean Money refers to a voluntary system of full public funding of election campaigns.  Already working in Arizona and Maine, Clean Money is designed to strengthen the connection between voters and their elected officials, ensure that election campaigns are a fair contest of ideas and not money, and open up the ballot to allow more good people of modest means to run for office.  Learn more at www.CAclean.org

On the field
Soccer stars of two generations

I got my hands dirty and saw a familiar mural at the Atwater Village Clean-Up at Ranch Market. Thanks to all who joined in the clean-up.

In Glassell Park, I met up with soccer stars Brandi Chastain and Landon Donovan to dedicate the new Joga Bonito playing field, donated by Nike. The kids of the Anahuak Soccer League were out in full force to cheer their favorite soccer stars and enjoy the beautiful new field.

Amermenia Genocide Remembrance

I joined the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day march through East Hollywood. Here's the view of the march from our new field offices at Hollywood and Western.

On the field at Bellevue Park

In Silver Lake, the mayor and I re-opened Bellevue Park, long closed while $1.7 million worth of bond-funded repairs were going on.

And in Hollywood, a new day laborer center has made the area around Home Depot safer and cleaner for day laborers and store patrons.

Eric Chinchilla

Above, I joined the Silver Lake Improvement Association annual meeting in order to show my appreciation of the good work done by SLIA president Eric Chinchilla. Below, Tom LaBonge and I open up Project Angel Food's new center on Vine Street in Hollywood.

WHAT'S GOING ON IN CITY HALL?

Out in the crowd, May 1 (eecue)
The May 1st marches took my breath away. I had the opportunity to wander in the crowd at the City Hall march, and to see the enormity of the marchers down Wilshire from the stage at the end of the day.

PBS broadcast The New Los Angeles, a one-hour documentary that explains how Latino immigration, union organizing, coalition politics and smart policies like Living Wage and accountable development have shaped our city's recent history.

Opportunities for youth
Opportunities for youth
A new program to reduce gang activity and increase youth opportunity in Boyle Heights reminded me of some of the work we've done together in CD13 on the same vexing issues.

To keep our city safe, Jack Weiss and I called for legislation that would coordinate training for security officers in private, commercial high-rise buildings and would reduce turnover in these jobs by requiring a set level of healthcare benefits.

Gorbachev in council
Gorbachev in council
Mikhail Gorbachev visited City Hall to build support for Global Green's Energy Shift campaign. Global Green is the same organization that I followed to the North Pole last year; they also see the lighter side of environmental activism, for example actress Kate Bosworth in my electric car for our arrival at the "Green Carpet" night before the Academy Awards.

JUST ONE MORE

Soccer star

I think this Soccer365 writer and I may have noticed the same little soccer star at the Joga Bonito field.
