A Word From Eric

This Sunday is Big Sunday, the volunteerism extravaganza put together by our very own Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. I know many e-news readers are already avid community volunteers, but if you're looking for a way to get involved and pitch in, Big Sunday might be the right start for you. Here are some local, CD-13 specific events, but don't hesitate to peruse the entire list of events if you feel like stretching your legs. There's a whole city full of helping out on Big Sunday.

East Hollywood: Plant flowers and paint out graffitti in the neighborhood around Los Angeles City College. Or do the same at Virigl Middle School at 9 am. Or meet at 161 N. Catalina at 10 am for a clean-up along Beverly Blvd.

Silver Lake: Meet at Laurel and Hardy Park to Give a Day of Beauty to Silver Lake. Or create aerosol mural art with Artstorm in Triangle Park.

Glassell Park: Empty that garage; Out of the Closet will be accepting donations.

If you're more of a Saturday person than a Sunday person, tomorrow, May 6 will be La Gran Limpieza's 16th annual opportunity to get your shoes really dirty helping clean up the Los Angeles River. Friends of the Los Angeles River has maps for locations

Also: don't forget about the Clean Money Town Hall on Tuesday night (rsvp to Eric Tang) or the Smart Growth Workshop a week from Saturday (rsvp to Alison Becker).
