ENVIRONMENT

Our 11th District is THE environmental district in the City of Los Angeles. We are home to a range of environmental treasures: the Santa Monica Mountains, the Ballona Wetlands, the El Segundo Blue Butterly Preserve, and the many beaches of the coast of the Santa Monica Bay. The wetlands, mountains, ocean and open space are not just breathtaking landscape, they are essential components and defining pieces of our district.

One of my most important duties is to serve as steward of these treasures, and to be to voice and the conscience of the environment on the City Council. I am proud to be one of the City’s representatives of the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission.

My environmental agenda is:

  • To support efforts to improve air quality and eliminate pollution in Santa Monica Bay
  • To preserve and defend our wetlands, mountains, ocean, and open space
  • The creation of new park spaces and recreational opportunities for children and youth
  • The revitalization and proper maintenance of existing parks
  • The implementation of city policies that foster use of alternative fuels and alternative modes of transportation
  • The development of more sound City policies to protect our groundwater.
  • The expansion of residential recycling programs to apartment buildings.
  • The protection and expansion of our urban forest.
  • The development of more environmentally sound policies by the city’s port, airport, and Department of Water and Power.
  • The promotion of alternative technologies to reduce our waste stream and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills.
  • The development of mass transit in Los Angeles.
  • The development of a genuine regional air transportation system.
