Income Tax Credit for Low-to-Moderate Income Workers
Provider: Community Development Department

Description
The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a federal credit worth up to $4,204 for qualified low-to-moderate income workers earning less than $33,692 ($34,692 for married filing joint) per year.
Getting the credit is easy. Just file a tax return and fill out Form 1040A or 1040 to claim the credit. This credit is retroactive, so workers who qualified in previous years and did not take the credit (like approximately 48% of eligible LA workers) may file an original or amended return to receive their refund.
Single or married people who worked full or part time during the current tax year can qualify for the EITC, depending on their income.
Workers who were raising two or more children in their home and had family income of less than $33,692 ($34,692 for married filing joint), can get an EITC of up to $4,204.
Workers who were raising one child in their home and had family income of less than $29,666 ($30,666 for married filing joint) can get a credit of up to $2,547.
Workers who were not raising children in their home but were between age 25-64 on December 31st of the tax year and had an income of less than $11,230 ($12,060 for married filing joint) can get a credit of up to $382. Workers must not qualify as the dependent of another person.
