On May 3, 2000, the Los Angeles City Council passed the "Tobacco Enforcement Program"(Los Angeles Municipal Code Sections 46.90 through 46.101). Under this program, retailers must obtain a Tobacco Retailer's permit for each location prior to selling tobacco products. The Los Angeles City Attorney's Office enforces the Tobacco Enforcement Program. Selling tobacco products without the required permit is a misdemeanor. The Office of Finance processes the applications and renewals for this permit. Applications and renewals can be completed by mail or by visiting any of the Office of Finances locations listed below. The Tobacco Retailer's Permit is renewable each year. The renewal is due on November 1st, and must be returned to the Office of Finance by December 31st, of each calendar year.
