Greenwaste Recycling

The City of Los Angeles is proud of its recycling efforts in all waste streams. The Urban Forestry Division is particularly proud of the greenwaste recycling center. The recycling center is operated jointly by UFD and the Bureau of Sanitation.

UFD annually generates thousands of tons of greenwaste in its maintenance operations. One hundred percent of the material produced by Division personnel is recycled. Hundreds of tons of greenwaste generated by contractors performing street tree maintenance is recycled.

The City's greenwaste recycling operation is one of the largest in the world. The operation produces several types and sizes of wood materials, mulch, that is utilized for different purposes. Rougher, large size material is used by the City to cover large areas in the control of weeds. The smaller material is trucked to farms in Ventura and Kern counties where it is often used in orchards.

Residents may obtain the smaller material for use on their own properties. The material is provided in bulk and a truck or trailer is necessary. Arrangements for mulch pick-up may be made by contacting Matt Wood at (213) 923-3109.

The Division is proud of its recycling efforts and hopes that all residents utilize the recycling tools the City provides. If you need further information please contact the Division at (213) 847-3077.
