SPECIES CHARACTERISTICS:
Semi-deciduous, broadleaf tree. Moderate growth rate, 25 - 35' in height, equal to greater spread. Round, oval and spreading in shape.
FOLIAGE:
Bipinnately compound leaf, opposite arrangement. 16 pairs of pinnae each bearing, 14 - 24 pairs of small oval leaflets. Entire margins, drops foliage from February - March. Light green in color.
FLOWERS:
Perfect; lavender blue in color. 2" long tubular flowers.
FRUIT:
Dry, dehiscent, green-Iight brown rounded, flattened capsules in color. 2" in size.
EXPOSURE:
Full sun, partial shade;
Hardiness: Sunset zones: 13, 15 - 24.
SOIL:
Well drained.
PRUNING:
Light pruning.
USES:
Accent, background, foliage, flower, right of way, shade, and seasonal color.
COMMENTS:
Litter from leaves, flower and fruit, may be a problem.
