SPECIES CHARACTERISTICS:
Evergreen, broadleaf shrub or tree. Moderate to fast growth rate, 20 - 30' in height, equal spread. Vase-shaped.
FOLIAGE:
Simple leaf, pinnate venation; deeply veined, alternate arrangement. Elliptic shape, serrated margins, coriaceous, glabrous surface texture.
6 - 8" long, 1 - 2" wide. Juvenile leaves are bronze before becoming green in color.
FLOWER:
Perfect; fragrant, creamy white in color, 1/2" in size,
Winter & Spring.
FRUIT:
Succulent, indehiscent, pome, yellow.green in color.
1/2" - 3/4" in size, Late Winter - early Spring.
TRUNK:
Straight, low branching.
BARK:
Smooth gray.
EXPOSURE:
Sun, partial shade, heat; Bardiness: Sunset zones: 8 - 24.
PESTS/DISEASES:
Fire blight.
PRUNING:
To raise crown to develop Tree form.
PROPAGATION:
Seed.
USES:
Accent, background, foliage, right of way, shade, seasonal color.
