SPECIES
CHARACTERISTICS:
Evergreen, feather palm tree. fast growth rate.
FOLIAGE:
Pinnate leaf type, arrangement is whorled. 10 - 15' fronds.
Gray-green in color.
FLOWERS:
Cream to yellow. Small in size.
FRUIT:
Succulent, indehiscent, date-like. Green to orange in color;
1" round. Summer to early Winter.
STEM/TRUNK:
Single trunk, exceptionally straight, with bands of dark and light
gray.
BARK:
Smooth.
EXPOSURE:
Full sun, heat, cold. Hardiness: Sunset zones: 12, 13,
15 - 17, 19 - 24.
SOIL:
Well drained.
FERTILIZER:
Nitrogen, chelated iron, when foilage is chlorotic.
PESTS/DISEASES:
Pink bud rot.
PRUNING:
To remov dead fronds.
PROPAGATION:
Seed.
USES:
Accent background, right of way, specimen, tropical.
COMMENTS:
New nomenclature: Syagrus romanzoffianum.
