Project P.A.R.E.N.T.

The Project P.A.R.E.N.T. (Prevent Abuse through Respect, Education, Non-Violence and Training) curriculum is a child abuse prevention tool intended to raise awareness about what constitutes child physical, sexual, and emotional abuse and neglect. With this awareness, child abuse can be avoided and our children can remain safe. This curriculum is drafted in such a manner that any person who works with parents and care givers can speak to them intelligently and accurately about the following:

  1. the four different types of child abuse;
  2. the causes and effects of child abuse;
  3. how to detect child abuse;
  4. ways to prevent child abuse; and
  5. what to do if you know your child has been abused.

The Project P.A.R.E.N.T. curriculum is organized into 5 sessions, complete with their own overviews, objectives, learning materials, suggested teaching procedures and teacher discussion guides. Each session is designed to last 1? hours, but this may vary depending on the needs of the group, time constraints, and/or length of the group exercises. The conclusion of the curriculum contains a teacher resource directory to provide individuals with additional learning materials, names of support services, and a legal authority guide that contains selected California child abuse statutes.

The Office of the City Attorney cares about children and wants to promote their safety and the well being of their families. We hope that the Project P.A.R.E.N.T. curriculum helps to achieve this goal.
