City Sewers Current Construction

Silver Lake Area Sewer Replacement Project

(NORTHEAST WILSHIRE AREA CSRP UNIT 5)

Inspections show that portions of the old sewers under several neighborhood streets in this area have deteriorated. As a result, the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works is now working on a sewer replacement project to remedy the problem. The project will reduce odors and provide reliable wastewater service for the community.

The City’s contractor will excavate trenches to reach the existing pipelines under the streets. The contractor will work in sections, removing and replacing or repairing portions of the existing pipeline that are in poor condition, and repaving the disturbed sections of streets when finished. The Bureau of Engineering has estimated that the entire project will take less than one year to complete. Construction in each of the affected neighborhoods will be much shorter. No interruptions to area sewer service or other utilities are anticipated.

The City of Los Angeles is undertaking many projects to build new sewers and repair existing pipelines as part of a citywide effort to improve our wastewater system. These construction projects are paid for with sewer service fees that are part of everyone’s water bills.
