The Japanese Garden has a Citizen's Advisory Board appointed by the Mayor of Los Angeles.

The committe establishes policies, oversees improvements, maintenance and public outreach while continually monitoring all aspects of long-range planning for garden activities and projects. The committee advises the Board of Public Works on matters that affect the garden, such as the best public uses, and through committee motions, recommend implementation of various programs.
