Main Street Lobby & Garage Entry

Project Restore began the restoration of the Main Street lobby and garage entry in 1993. Functioning as the primary entrance to City Hall, the Main Street lobby had suffered tremendous wear and tear over the past 69 years. Renovating the lobby and adjacent historic spaces entailed restoring the elaborately stenciled ceilings, the marble floors and walls, cleaning and restoring all metal surfaces including eight ornate bronze elevator doors, retrofitting the historic light fixtures, and installing supplemental lighting. In conjunction with the project, two disabled-access elevators were built and new telephone alcoves were installed, as were custom-made information and security desks. Project Restore completed the rehabilitation of the Main Street Lobby and Garage Entry in 1995.
