In 1989, the furnishings in the Board of Public Works session room were restored. The walnut pews which once graced the session room had been replaced over the years with movie theater-style seats inappropriate to the Byzantine style of this impressive room.

Through research, the staff located the firm that constructed the pews in 1928. A new set of historically accurate walnut pews were created and installed in September, 1989, restoring the aesthetic integrity of the session room .
