The California Cultural Historical Endowment Awards $2 Million Grant to Project Restore Project Restore secures nearly $2 million in grants for the restoration and seismic retrofit of the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Hollyhock House, located within the Barnsdall Art Park complex.

In 2007, Project Restore submitted a grant request to the California Cultural and Historical Endowment (CCHE), an endowment established in 2004 from voter approved bonds to fund projects through a very competitive grant process. Project Restore’s application received one of the highest scores within its division and as a result, the CCHE board recommended that the Barnsdall Art Park project receive matching grant funds in the amount of $1,935,000.

The Board of Directors of Project Restore is delighted with the CCHE’s strong show of support for Project Restore and its efforts to restore a culturally and historically significant Los Angeles landmark. Of course, this achievement could not have been possible if it wasn’t for the overwhelming support and collaboration received from the various community based organizations, L.A. City officials, City Departments and individuals who were instrumental in helping fulfill the State grant requirements. The board of director’s would like to thank the City of Los Angeles, Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa, Council President Eric Garcetti, the Chief Legislative Analyst, Bureau of Engineering, Department of Recreation and Parks, and the Cultural Affairs Department for their guidance and support.

Coordination of the immense resources that a project of this scope and prominence requires will soon get started. With the backing of the City of Los Angeles, the California Cultural and Historical Endowment, and our loyal supporters, Project Restore will work together to restore the historic places that make our communities unique.

The design phase of this historic project will be scheduled to start next year. For additional project updates, please make sure to log on to our website.
