A. The game of flag football is played with seven players on a team. It is played similar to regulation football with the exception of the ball carrier being tackled, instead, the defensive player removes their flag belt. All players are eligible to catch the football. Any combination of players may be used for line or back field.
B. The regulation dimension for the field shall be no longer than 70 yards and no wider than 40 yards, plus two 10-yard end zones.
C. Uniforms

All the team members must wear jerseys of the same color. Each player must have identifying numbers |

All jerseys must be full length and tucked inside the players pants or if wearing cut- offs, the jersey must be clearly above the waist |
3. |
The color of the flag belt must be different from the color of the pants worn by the individual players during the game |
4. |
Regular football equipment and pads are prohibited. Only elbow/knee pads and gloves are allowed. No jewelry, no forearm pads, etc... |
5. |
A mouth piece is recommended for every player |
6. |
All players must wear shoes. Shoes with rubber cleats are permitted. Detachable cleats are also permitted. Street shoes and metal cleats are not permitted |
7. |
All flag belts are to be issued by the sports office |
D. The football must be of official high school dimensions. Each team may supply their own ball to the official, but they are responsible for bringing the ball to the official.
E. The city of los angeles department of recreation and parks does not provide insurance.
F. Time of the Game
1. |
There will be two 30-minute halves, with a five-minute halftime |
2. |
The clock shall be stopped for requested time outs. The clock will also be stopped after all touchdown and safeties. The clock will resume with the ball placed on the twenty-yard line following a touchdown and a safety |

During the last two minutes of the game the clock shall stop on the incomplete pass, penalty, running out of bounds and injuries recognized by the officials. The clock will be stopped for placement of the first down, then restarted by the referees whistle. The coach will be notified when they are with in the last two minutes of the game. The clock will stop only for this notification and will be restarted immediately |
4. |
Each team will be allowed two time outs per half. Any time outs remaining from the first half will not be carried over to the second half |
5. |
During time outs, one coach will be allowed on the field to confer with the team |
6. |
After halftime, the teams shall change goals |
7. |
At least six players are needed in order for the game to be considered official. If there aren’t at least six players the game will be a forfeit |
G. Substitutions are Unlimited
H. Scoring
1. |
Touchdown = 6pts |
2. |
Safety = 2pts |
3. |
Conversions: from the three yard line, it will be 1 point. From the five yard line, it will be 2 points |
I. Tie Scores
1. |
Will be recorded as a tie |
2. |
If the game is a play-off game, it will go into overtime, which is a ten-minute quarter. And, if it is still a tie at the end of the over time, the game will go into sudden death |
3. |
If the game is the championship game, the game will go into over time. If tie still remains, it will go into second over time. If after the second overtime it is still a tie, then it will go into sudden death |
