What is the order of the events?

Is this a mass start?
No. This triathlon will be conducted through the use of waves.  Your age or relay determines the wave placement.  The waves and wave order are: 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+, Relays, 15-17 and 12-14.  The waves will be separated by a 6-8 minute period.

What will the weather be like on race day?
Based upon last year’s information, race day weather should consist of clear skies, with early morning air and water temperatures in the mid 70s, and midday air and water temperatures in the low to mid 80s.

Are wetsuits allowed?
Yes, wetsuits are allowed since this is not a wetsuit restricted event.  Also, despite the warm water temperature, some people will still choose to use their wetsuits in order to break them in a little or simply because they feel more comfortable swimming with the wetsuit on.

Where will the swim take place?
The swim will take place in the Hansen Dam Recreation Lake, which is located in the Aquatics Center.

What type of visibility will there be in the lake?
Underwater visibility will range from 3 – 5 feet.

I have a mountain bike, is that alright to use for the bike portion?
Yes, that’s absolutely fine.  Make sure that you pump up your tires appropriately to reduce rolling friction, though.

I live far away from the venue and can’t make it the day before to pick up my packet.  Can I pick up the packet on the day of the race?
Yes, that is alright to do.  Keep in mind, though, that the first wave will enter the water at 7:00 am, regardless of whether or not you have picked up your packet.  On the race day, please allow for plenty of time to find parking, prepare yourself, and to wait in line for your packet.  Pickup time will be from 5:30 am – 6:30 am.  At 6:30 am, the last person will be given their packet, and the booth closed.

Is there a different course for the youth?
No, there is no different course for the youth.  The same distances will apply to everyone.

Will there be restrooms and changing rooms?
Yes, there are plenty of restrooms and changing rooms.  In addition, there will be Porta-potties.

Will there be water stations along the course?
Yes, there will be water stations along the course.  For the purpose of safety, however, there will only be one water station along the bike course.  It would be best if you had your own water bottle on your bike.

Will there be a first aid station?
Yes, there will be a first aid station near the Lifeguard Headquarters.  Also, there will be lifeguards all around who will be able to assist you should something go wrong.

After the race is over, can I hang out at the pool?
Absolutely!  In fact, this is encouraged.  Please make sure to bring plenty of friends and family with you in order to watch you race and swim afterwards.  If you’re going to swim during the regular pool hours, please make sure look through the rules in the facility brochure.

What is the earliest that I can get to the facility on August 13?
The facility will open for participants to park and prepare for the day’s event at
5:00 am.  No swimming, biking or running in the lake, on walkways or roads during the period from 5:00 am to 6:00 am.

Will there be a warm-up period for the lake?
Yes, there will be a period from 6:00 am – 6:30 am where you can get in the water and feel things out.
