Citywide Aquatics The City of Los Angeles, Recreation and Parks Department,
Aquatics Division offers families and community members many
healthy, affordable and safe aquatic activities at their public
pools, lakes and beaches.
The Aquatics Division operates 59 swimming pools, 10 lakes
and a beach. In addition,
the city operates 11 open water facilities.
These open water facilities are open year round, offering fishing, paddle

AQUATIC FACILITY INFORMATION
Summer 2009 LAUSD Joint Use Pools West Adams Preparatory High School 1500 W Washington Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90007. West Adams Preparatory High School will offer group swim lessons and aquatic activities for youth ages 10 through 17 years old. Program offerings include group swim lessons, competitive swimming and diving teams, inner-tube water polo and junior lifeguards. The pool will be operated by the City of Los Angeles, Department of Recreation and Parks and will open from July 6th to August 29th. For more information including operating hours, please contact Citywide Aquatics Headquarters at 323.906.7953. Miguel Contreras Learning Complex 322 S. Lucas Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90017. Miguel Contreras Learning Complex will offer a public swim program operated through the City of Los Angeles, Department of Recreation and Parks. The swim season will run from July 6th to August 29th. In addition to open recreational swim, the facility will offer a range of learn-to-swim classes and youth aquatic activities. EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION - AQUATIC DIVISION LA City Lifeguard Test is being administered at John C. Argue Swim Stadium AGE: Must be 17 years of Age by September 12, 2009. A valid picture ID showing proof of age will be required in order to take the test. Please see section #5 Department of Homeland Security for types of acceptable identification to bring on test date. DOCUMENTS: DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY: All new city employees must show satisfactory proof of: If you have ONE document from CATEGORY A, you will need no further documentation. If you DO NOT have documentation from CATEGORY A, you need one document EACH from Categories B and C. All names and initials MUST match exactly when presenting one document from CATEGORY B and CATEGORY C. This includes, but is not limited to: spelling, titles, initials and surnames. Documents with missing information will NOT be accepted. - All documents must be on hand at the test location or submitted to the office immediately following the test. TESTING CRITERIA - 100 points possible: All Certificates must be shown at the test site. 1. SWIM TEST - 40 points (required) 2. LA CITY LIFEGUARD PRE-ACADEMY CERTIFICATION - 20 points 3. ORAL INTERVIEW - 40 points CANDIDATES MUST RECEIVE A MINIMUM OF 65 POINTS IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE LIFEGUARD ACADEMY THIS TEST IS BEING CONDUCTED TO QUALIFY CANDIDATES FOR THE LIFEGUARD ACADEMY (Subject to Change as determined by City Budget constraints) TESTING PROCESS WILL TAKE APPROXIMATELY 4-6 HOURS TO COMPLETE. PLEASE BRING WATER AND LUNCH. CANDIDATES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE TEST SITE.
Special Olympics swim team is designed for athletes who want to train and compete in Special Olympic events. For persons with mental and/or mental-physical disabilities only. This program is intended for the recreational participant. It does not come with any commitment to the program depending on the chosen level of participation. It is a seasonal program, however we encourage year-round participation in order to experience the full breadth of aquatic competition. Team practices include water instruction and may include dry land warm-ups. There is an opportunity for all participants to compete against other teams with similar ability and age citywide. Participation awards are given seasonally to each individual. Program is designed to accommodate both male and female participants. Prerequisites: Participants must be 7-17 years of age and must be able to swim the width of the pool and back in deep water of that designated pool.
** EPICC Swim Stadium Provides Home to City’s Competitive Youth Swim Team Participate in the Southern California or Southern Pacific
section of United States Swimming, Synchronized Swimming, and
Water Polo. These teams also compete against swimmers of the
same age and level and qualify for national tournaments. Prerequisite:
Try-out with coach/manager, orientation and parent participation. For persons with mental or physical disabilities, this program helps participants to learn and improve skills, maintain and increase physical fitness, achieve success and receive recognition, and experience self-actualization in a regular aquatics environment. The city provides instruction in canoeing, sailing, windsurfing and other type of small craft activities. The Junior Lifeguard Program is a class designed to teach children ages 10-17 years basic water safety, skin diving, CPR, First Aid, and small crafts skills.
