Traffic & Transportation

Mayor Villaraigosa’s vision is to Increase the convenience, reliability, safety and speed of Los Angeles’ transportation system and change how people move throughout the city.

  • Increase availability and use of public transportation
  • Make roadways more efficient and safe
  • Maintain long-term competitiveness of LA airports

Perhaps more than any issue facing Los Angeles, transportation affects everyone. Whether you are a commuter driving to work, a student trying to get to school, a senior who needs to get to the doctor, or one of the thousands of Angelenos who depend on public transportation as their sole means of getting around this vast city, you are touched by our transportation system.

The roads and freeways, the trains and buses, and our ports are the arteries that pump blood into the Southern California economy, but they also affect our quality of life in ways increasingly undesired: traffic congestion, dirty air, and noise.

To maintain the promise of Los Angeles as a city of opportunity, a major contributor to the California and U.S. economies, and a place where so many want to live and work, we must invest in our transportation infrastructure with an eye toward tomorrow, an unwavering concern for future generations, and the courage to change the paradigm for how we think about moving people and goods throughout our metropolis.

This is our plan for Moving LA.
