Marilyn Grunwald, President

 

MARILYN GRUNWALD, PRESIDENT - President Grunwald is a writer and founder of The Disabled Section, a new non-profit dedicated to bringing persons with disabilities into civic and political life. Due to a life-long disability, Ms. Grunwald has a great understanding of the need for access and the necessity of compliance with the American's with Disabilities Act (ADA). She is involved with various civic organizations in the San Fernando Valley including Rotary. Originally trained as a legal secretary, Ms. Grunwald has more than 20 years experience in business administration. A distinguished alumni of Los Angeles Valley College, where she studied political science, she is also a graduate of the Valley Leadership Institute, and Buckhaven Technical College. Ms. Grunwald has been a member of the Disabled Access Appeals Commission since April 2003, Vice President from January 2004 to August 2005 and from July 2008 to July 2009. President from August 2005 to September 2006 and was elected President again in July 2009.
Jorge E. Acevedo, Vice President Jorge E. Acevedo, VICE PRESIDENT - Vice President Acevedo brings to the Commission 10 years of experience as an advocate and voice for the differently-abled community of Los Angeles and Glendale. He is a 30 year resident of Los Angeles working with others to enable perspective on issues of disabled access as a fundamental civil right. He is a goal-oriented individual with very strong leadership capabilities. He has proven his ability to work well with staff, volunteers, and the board of directors. He has been involved in many community plans for various organizations in and around Los Angeles and Glendale. Mr. Acevedo obtained his degree in Criminal Justice in 2004. In addition, Mr. Acevedo is the founding member of Delta Sigma Omicron, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping students with disabilities and non-disabled students achieve and graduate from Glendale Community College. In April 2008, he was recognized by the U.S. Department of Justice for his dedication and hard work on behalf of America's victims of crime. He is a member of the Disabled Access Appeals Commission since September, 2008 and was elected the Vice President of the Commission in July 2009.



Justin J. Kim, Commissioner
JUSTIN J. KIM, COMMISSIONER - Commissioner Kim is a founder and a principal of the firm TMG Realty Advisors. He has over sixteen years of experience in real estate appraisal and real estate consulting and is a licensed, certified general appraiser for the State of California. Mr. Kim is a graduate of the University of Southern California with a degree in Accounting and Real Estate Finance. He is a senior member of American Society of Appraisers (ASA), and an associate member of Appraisal Institute, Urban Land Institute, Institute of Real Estate Management and a committee member of USC Athletic Support Group.
Mr. Kim is an alternate member on the County of Los Angeles Assessment Appeals Board, and serves as a member of Board of Director for State Fund for Enterprise, Business, Industrial Development Corporation (SAFE-BIDC0) for State of California. Mr. Kim is also a member of Board of Director of Korean Health, Education, Information & Research Center (KHEIR). From 2003-2005, he served on the board of the Korean American Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Kim has been a member of Disabled Access Appeals Commission since September of 2006 and was elected the President of the Commission from July 2008 to July 2009.



Rod Lane, Commissioner

 

ROD LANE, COMMISSIONER - Commissioner Lane has been a member of the Disabled Access Appeals Commission since September 2005, Vice President from September 2006 to July 2007 and President of the Commission from July 2007 to July 2008. His education includes University of California, Los Angeles, Certificate Program in Engineering Management for Construction, Joint Certificate in Engineering Management for Construction from the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Associated General Contractors of California. He also completed studies toward a Bachelor's of Science in Architecture, University of California, Berkeley. Mr. Lane is proficient in every aspect of construction management and specializes in the management of non-profit and affordable housing projects. Prior to joining Swinerton Management and Consulting, Mr. Lane was the founder and president of Community Construction Strategies, a premier leader in the field of affordable housing construction management. Commissioner Lane has over 20 years experience in the construction industry.
