Sustainable Building and Deconstruction
 | Deconstruction
Program - Deconstruction is the careful
disassembly of buildings to maximize the reuse and recycling of the
materials. The goals of the grant program funded by the California
Integrated Waste Management Board include: undertaking deconstruction
activities at five future library sites, developing deconstruction
guidelines, evaluating materials markets, building awareness through
targeted outreach, and recognizing achievements in this area. |

Sustainable
Design Implementation Program (SDIP) - The City Council
created the Sustainable Design Task Force in 1995 to incorporate
environmentally sensitive design features into the City’s new construction
and remodeling projects. The Task Force has evolved over the years and
incorporated into the SDIP which assists in developing City policies,
including that City buildings achieve LEED certification. |

 | Brownfield
Development - The goal of Los Angeles’ Brownfields Program is to
develop effective strategies to enable redevelopment of brownfields
throughout Los Angeles but particularly in disadvantaged communities and
to incorporate these strategies into the City’s normal redevelopment
process. At the same time, the City is leveraging its involvement in
brownfield redevelopment to encourage green building practices. The
Crown Coach Site serves as a model for early integration of green building
objectives into the brownfield redevelopment process. |
