Biography

Laura Trejo, General Manager

Ms. Trejo joined the City family in 2002 bringing with her over 20 years of public service to older adults and their families. Ms. Trejo has consistently focused her work on strategies that encourage systems of care to more effectively work together in serving older adults, program evaluation and performance outcomes measures.

She has consulted and trained extensively throughout the United States on the development of programs for the elderly with an emphasis on cultural competence. She has worked with individual countries and international organizations to develop policy initiatives and programs in the areas of aging, mental health, health, Alzheimer’s and rehabilitation. Her work has been published in professional journals and newsletters, book chapters, and major reports. She serves on various local and national boards and committees.

Ms. Trejo’s commitment to excellence has been recognized with the:

  • 2002 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Community Health Leadership Award, considered the nation’s highest honor in community health leadership.
  • 2004 Library of Congress calendar of “Women Who Dare,” that celebrates the lives and accomplishments of women whose tenacity, courage and overall strength of spirit enabled them to make their way past cultural obstacles, lead lives of achievement, and become forces for social change and more.
  • 2004 Women of Hope Award in recognition for excellence as a leader in Regional Government.
  • 2006 the American Society on Aging leadership award in Mental Health and Aging.

Ms. Trejo is a gerontologist with a Master of Science in Gerontology, Master of Public Administration and Graduate Certificate in Long Term Care Administration all from the University of Southern California.

The study of aging combines or integrates information from several separate areas of study. Biology, sociology, and psychology are the "core" or basic areas, along with content from many other areas of study such as public policy, humanities, and economics.
