This forked three-arm pole was chosen in the early 1970's by representatives of the Van Nuys business community to light Van Nuys Boulevard and Magnolia Boulevard.  Originally, 1,000 watt mercury vapor lamps were used to provide on average five footcandles.  The luminaires today are 250 watt high-pressure sodium.
