George
Eslinger is the former Director of the Bureau of Street Lighting for the
City of Los Angeles (1984 -1998). He is a registered Professional
Engineer with 37 years of experience in a wide variety of supervisorial
and management positions.
His position was one of 33 General Manager positions in the City. He was responsible for the design, construction administration, and operation of the City's street lighting system, with total expenditures of about $50 million and a staff of 203. He was directly responsible to the Board of Public Works and the Mayor and City Council.
Mr. Eslinger has been a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) for 29 years. He has served as Secretary, Treasurer, and Program Chairman of the Los Angeles Roadway Lighting Forum and chaired a Task Force which published Guidelines for Roadway Lighting Design to promote use of IES standards.
He is currently active in IESNA's Roadway Lighting Committee and in related subcommittees. He is also active in the ANSI/NEMA Technical Committees on Lighting, the United States National Committee (USNC/USA) and Commission Internationale d'Eclairage (CIE). He is also an Executive Board member of the International Dark Sky Association (IDA), an organization that promotes good lighting and reduced environmental effects of light pollution, glare, and light trespass.
Mr. Eslinger has also devoted many years of dedicated work and leadership to service and youth organizations including Boy Scouts of America, AAU (now U.S. Swimming), and has served as President of the Civic Center Optimist Club of Los Angeles.
