The George A. Eslinger Street Lighting Photo Gallery

Street Lighting in Los Angeles dates back to the late 1800's. The styles and types of poles and fixtures utilized reflect the City's history, architecture, commitment to public safety, dedication to historic preservation and reduction in light pollution.

This gallery is a tribute  to George A. Eslinger, former Director of the Bureau of Street Lighting.  Through his dedication, leadership and vision he was responsible for spearheading the implementation of  information technology solutions to make significant operational improvements in the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Street Lighting.

Mr. Eslinger was one of the first executives to champion and sponsor the use of the Internet technology to provide easy access to City services and information for the Citizens of Los Angeles.  This gallery was one of Mr. Eslinger's visions to promote the cultural and historical significance of the City's Street Lighting System.

For your information and pleasure, here are some images representative of streetlighting past and present.
