INTRODUCTION

This guide is provided as an introduction to assist community leaders, businesses and neighborhood community groups in the formulation and implementation to Streetscape projects. The City of L.A. conducted a study in 1992 to determine how to improve the quality of life for neighborhoods. Community Streetscape Improvements have proven to have the most positive aesthetic impact on a neighborhood and were strongly endorsed throughout the city. Streetscape projects are aimed at improving air quality, street appearance, and traffic circulation; promoting and enhancing pedestrian activities; beautifying the city landscape, including sidewalk and crosswalk enhancement, street tree planting, pedestrian lighting and traffic island landscaping.
