If a caller is reporting a car currently being stolen (crime in progress), immediately transfer the caller to 9-1-1.
If the crime JUST OCCURRED and the caller has suspect and vehicle information, transfer the caller to 9-1-1.
If the registered owner of the car discovers his/her car has been stolen and there is no further information, transfer the registered owner to the nearest community police station for a stolen vehicle report.
If a car is discovered that appears to be stolen, e.g., punched ignition, stripped, abandoned, with no registered owner present, transfer the caller to the nearest community police station.
Only registered owners of vehicles can make telephonic reports. If you are not the registered owner of a vehicle but want to report the vehicle stolen (e.g. you recently bought the car but haven't registered it in your name) take the vehicle registration to the nearest community police station.
